US chief: Too soon to leave Afghanistan
The head of the US Marine Corps, says it will take a few more years, before Afghanistan is secure enough for the US Marines to leave.
James Conway, Commandant General, said, "Finally, though I certainly believe some American units somewhere in Afghanistan will turn over responsibilities in 2011, I do not think they will be Marines."
Other senior officers, have also warned that it’ll take considerable time, before Afghan troops can take over. But Conway’s blunt assessment is the FIRST of its kind, from a service chief, since President Barack Obama, announced that US troops would begin leaving Afghanistan in July 2011.
